Smoky Honey-Eater
NEW SPECIES: A new species of Smoky honeyeater, discovered on a
Conservation International RAP expedition to the Foja Mountains of Papua
province, Indonesia, on the island of New Guinea – 2005.
This gorgeous bird is unique with its orange bare skin patch around
its eyes and pendant wattle. It eats fruit and insects, contributing to
the regulation of the insect population. It is fairly common in the Foja
Mountains, a quiet bird not given to vocalizations.
