Ulcerated Basal Cell Carcinoma "Rodent Ulcer" BCC
Ulcerated Basal Cell Carcinoma. These lesions are moist ulcers which may not have the characteristic rolled, translucent border of a nodular basal cell carcinoma. They can be much larger than the pre-auricular lesion seen here, and represent neglected lesions. pre-auricular basal cell carcinomas are more likely to recur after treatment. Therefore Mohs surgery surgery is recommended to lessen the likelihood of recurrence.
Basosquamous Carcinoma of the Temple
This large, crusted tumor on the temple has clinical features of both squamous cell carcinoma (scaly crust), and basal cell carcinoma (translucency in some areas). Histologically, it also has features of both, hence the name basosquamous. These lesions have a biological aggressiveness intermediate between basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. They are also called keratotic basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma with basaloid differentiation, basal cell carcinoma with squamous differentiation, or "collision tumors." This lesion was treated by Mohs surgery.
Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma
Superficial basal cell carcinomas are common on the trunk and extremities, but can occur on the face. Often, they are subtle, and not particularly impressive clinically. They may be mistaken for actinic keratoses, or inflammatory diseases.

Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Upper Lip
Photos: A photo of a rather ill-defined nodular basal cell carcinoma above the lip. This patient is predisposed to developing basal cell carcinomas because of radiation therapy (for acne) in the past. Note that the surrounding area has extensive radiation damage.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Cheek
Squamous cell carcinoma is often somewhat less distinctive in its appearance than are basal cell carcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma may or may not be ulcerated, and often have a hard, horny crust. They are not translucent appearing.
Nodular Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelid
