Canada stops processing visas/immigration in M’sia, outsources services to Singapore

May 17, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Malaysians wanting to go to Canada will now have to go to Singapore to get visas. The Star reported today that from May 1, all Canadian immigration-related services will now be handled by the Singapore office.
Besides Malaysia, Germany, Japan, Iran, Bangladesh and Serbia are also affected by measures by the Canadian government to streamline, modernise as well as save costs in immigration and citizenship operations. This was explained by Stuart Shaw, Second Secretary in the Political, Economic and Public Affairs Section of the Canadian High Commission in Malaysia.
Shaw also said that there would be no break in services, with the visa application process for Malaysians remaining the same. “The only difference is now they have to send their passports personally, by post or courier to Singapore, where the process is quicker and more convenient.
