European hotel prices begin to rise for summer

April 13, 2012

The average price of a double room across the continent is €122 (RM492) this month, the hotel booking site said, with certain popular destinations soaring as tourists begin their annual trips.
Venice jumped by a whopping 52 per cent to €236 in April, to tie with the city traditionally the most expensive in Europe, Geneva, Trivago reported.
London, already groaning under the weight of demands ahead of the Olympics, saw a seven per cent jump in price to €197 per night while Paris rose nine per cent to €181 a night.
In the south of France, the city of Nice jumped by 19 per cent to €119 a night while Cannes, preparing for next month's film festival, rose by 15 per cent to €132 a night.
A great value destination to visit this month is Bucharest, Trivago said, coming in at just €76 per night, down some three per cent, although it was topped price-wise by Sofia and Riga, which both cost €75 a night on average in April (up from last month).
